Frequently Asked Questions
What’s Indie Valentine?Head on over to the about us page to learn more!
What’s the application process?
Starting Dec. 1st, you can apply online. The last day to apply is Jan. 2, 2008. We will notify accepted vendors on Jan. 6. Vendors must submit at least one and up to three photos (I don’t care what size) Vendors are required to fill out a contract and send it to us, along with your $35 acceptance fee, by Jan. 19th.
How much does it cost?
Accepted vendors will pay $35 via PayPal (we’ll send you an invoice) before Jan. 19th. We will also take a percentage of your sales (5%) to cover our merchant processing fees, promotional costs, and printing costs. We will not be making money for ourselves off of your fees, but we do need to spend money to make this show successful for you! Checks will be sent to vendors one week after the show.
What’s the jury process?
Members of the STL Craft Mafia and Cranky Yellow will be voting on which vendors to accept. We are looking for high-quality handmade crafts and art; in general, the more unique, whimsical, and creative, the better.
How will the STL Craft Mafia and Cranky Yellow be promoting Indie Valentine?
Expect to see a flood of posters around town – we’re going to be advertising in as many local venues and businesses as possible. We will also be promoting our show on all of the local event calendars, including as many art/craft websites as possible, including all of our own. Also expect to see our show featured in local print media.
What do vendors have to do?
Not much, other than provide us with a detailed list of your inventory and tag your items securely. We require all inventory to be tagged according to our specifications and for detailed inventory lists to be submitted one week before the show (Jan. 26th) via e-mail. We will send out tagging instructions and inventory spreadsheets in advance. Vendors are not required to work at the show, but they are required to drop off items on Friday, Feb. 1st, and pick up their items at the end of the night on Sat., Feb. 2nd.
Why do vendors have to tag and inventory their items?
Because the show is department-store style, tags must have your vendor number, item number, and price in such a way that cashiers can cut off and keep half of the tag. We later match up these tags to your inventory list and thus ensure that you get paid!
How do vendors get paid?
At the end of the night, we will match up the tags in the cash register with your inventory lists. We then calculate how much you sold and subtract 5%. We will send you your check in the mail one week after the show. We will send you a statement via e-mail as well as include one with the check.
Who is the STL Craft Mafia?
We are the STL branch of a world-wide artist/crafter collective. We are made up of 20 members who live and create in the STL area. We are committed to growing our crafty businesses and creating a marketplace for the handmade goodness in our town.
Who is Cranky Yellow?
Cranky Yellow is an independent publisher/distributor of art, literature, hand made goods and general progressive thinking. We are here to give those typically shunned by the art-world a chance to show off and sell their original art and crafts. We're doing this online and in our store front on historic Cherokee Street (Saint Louis). Cranky Yellow is not only a business but also an organization dedicated to community enrichment and progressive politics. Charity and Originality are what drive us.
What can vendors do to help?
Why, I’m so glad you asked! We would be happy to have our vendors volunteer at our show. There are a variety of things you can do – just e-mail us and ask!
